DESIGNER SARAH-HAMLIN HASTINGS DISCOVERED A VOID IN THE CHARLESTON MARKET WHEN SHE MOVED BACK TO HER HOMETOWN SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THERE WERE NO INTERESTING INTERIOR DESIGN SOURCES.
While there are a plethora of antique shops, junk malls, large furniture stores, and art galleries, yet no place where one could walk in and the work was done for you: Antique dealers who were hand-picked for their varying aesthetic, art dealers who represent a wide range of genres, and small, boutique fabric, wallpaper and lighting lines that cannot be found anywhere near Charleston.
Serendipity would have it that this fabulous old cigar factory had just begun a massive, yet thoughtful renovation. It offered not only a a fantastic space for such a showroom, but a great location and plenty of parking.
So an idea turned into reality and the Fritz Porter Design Collective was born...
Curatorial + Curious
Sarah-Hamlin Hastings founded Fritz Porter in 2015 after recognizing the need for a high-end fabric, furniture and design showroom. In addition she wanted to create a space to celebrate the artists and artisans behind them and to connect with design professionals and enthusiasts. Located in a converted cigar factory, Fritz Porter marries products from contemporary designers with fine antiques in a specialized, inspired, and cohesive setting. The approach is equal parts curatorial and curiosity-driven—much like Sarah-Hamlin herself. And the result is a must-visit resource for designers and treasure-hunters alike.
